ValCastellet Workshops

Sustainable basketry and textile workshops in Mallorca and online—create your own piece with traditional techniques and natural materials.

Description

ValCastellet Workshops are hands-on learning experiences focused on contemporary basketry and textile techniques, rooted in traditional craft and guided by a deeply ecological approach. Each workshop is designed around the creation of a finished piece, combining time-honoured basketry methods with manual weaving to explore new, modern applications.

The proposals centre on working with sustainable materials: natural and plant-based fibres, recycled or reused textiles, and locally collected botanical materials (including plants gathered through responsible pruning). Participants learn not only how to weave, shape, and build, but also how to recognise and choose fibres—from market-available natural materials to vines, trees, and wild plants that can be transformed into handmade fibre, thread, or cord.

Workshop formats

  • Basic Basketry Workshop Cycle: a series where each workshop explores a different technique and ends with a final piece. Sessions are independent and monographic, so you can take the full cycle or join individual workshops depending on your interests.
  • Regular Classes and Clinics: individual and group options that revisit basketry, weaving, and other textile expressions through more personalised proposals. These sessions are typically 2 hours, with dates, locations (for in-person), and schedules available upon enquiry.

For the conscious community in Mallorca, this is an inspiring option if you are looking for a craft practice that feels both grounded and expressive—where nature, making, and mindful attention come together. The skills developed can support creative projects in art and design, and can also be applied to home objects, sculptural forms, gifts, or wearable concepts.

Note: Workshops are offered in in-person format and also online via streaming; availability varies, so it is best to request current dates and locations directly.
